yala vs hyperfollow.
hyperfollow is free because it's a lock-in: you must distribute through distrokid to use it, and it stops at a single bare release page. yala is distributor-agnostic and keeps going where hyperfollow stalls.
no spin. no asterisks. line by line. last reviewed 2026-06 from public pricing pages + feature lists. spot something off? email hi@yala.la and we’ll publish the fix.
- you don't want your links tied to which distributor you use
- you want a bio page, themes, custom domains + real analytics, none of which HyperFollow has
- you want ATT-resilient server-side conversion tracking for your ads
- you already pay for DistroKid and only need a basic, free per-release pre-save page
- you're just starting and a generic page is enough for now
- you don't want a second tool in the stack
whose house your links live in
the core difference.
| what | hyperfollow | yala |
|---|---|---|
| distributor lock-in | free only if you distribute through distrokid; switch distributors and your links live in someone else's house. | distributor-agnostic: scan any release no matter who distributes it. |
| data portability | audience data sits inside a distribution-centered ecosystem. | CSV export + GDPR DSAR export and erasure on every tier, free included. |
what hyperfollow can't do
| what | hyperfollow | yala |
|---|---|---|
| bio / link-in-bio page | none: it's a per-release page tool, not an artist hub. | built-in bio link type (links · image · video · merch · release-embed · social · email capture). |
| themes / branding | generic pages, no real design control. | palette themer pulls your landing colors from the cover art; white-label on enterprise. |
| custom domain | none, ever. and distrokid 'can't verify custom domains', so ad attribution suffers. | branded subdomain on pro; custom domain on teams (3) / enterprise (unlimited). |
| email capture | paywalled behind musician plus ($39.99/yr). | on every tier (cap scales 500 → unlimited) + release-day broadcast. |
| server-side conversions (CAPI) | client-side pixels only, weak post-iOS14/ATT. | server-side meta CAPI on teams + up. ATT-resilient. |
the ToneDen lesson
what happens when the host walks away.
| what | hyperfollow | yala |
|---|---|---|
| acquisition risk | toneden (eventbrite-owned) died in 2024 with no clean export: links dead, lists stranded. | CSV + GDPR export on day one, free tier included. you're never one acquisition from losing your list. |
questions.
No. Yala is distributor-agnostic: it scans your release across the DSPs no matter who you distribute through. HyperFollow only works if you distribute through DistroKid.
Yes. Branded subdomain (yourname.yala.la) on Pro, and a fully custom domain (go.yourband.com) on Teams (up to 3) and Enterprise (unlimited). HyperFollow has no custom domain and DistroKid can't verify one for ad attribution.
Yes, email capture is on every tier including free (up to 500 people), plus a release-day broadcast. HyperFollow paywalls email capture behind Musician Plus.
Yala has a real free tier ($0, unlimited links, full scanner, analytics, bio page, email capture). HyperFollow is 'free' only because you're already paying for a DistroKid distribution subscription.
fair to hyperfollow: if you already pay for distrokid and just want a free, no-fuss pre-save page per release, it does that and costs nothing extra. yala is the move when you outgrow it: when you want a bio page, your own domain, real themes, portable data, and ad tracking that survives iOS. (yala has no annual billing, free trial, or SSO yet, and apple music pre-save is later in 2026 roadmap.)
